Core printed sources and period plans were brought together so that the historical narrative could be checked against the materials on which it depends.
The archive was expanded with public-domain books, articles, legal reports, and maps central to the history of the Dungeon. These include the principal Hasted accounts, Godfrey-Faussett’s Canterbury Till Domesday, Plowden’s report of Hales v. Petit, Ireland’s nineteenth-century continuation, and Bateman’s record of the Lee-Warner landowners.
Why this matters
A source list is useful; access to the sources themselves is better. Housing the texts and plans alongside the site’s interpretation allows readers to test quotations, examine context, and disagree intelligently.
Remaining work
The printed record is only the beginning. Original deeds, probate material, valuations, parish records, and family papers will be necessary to address the largest gaps in the succession.
